Of course the drug companies (and their many advertisements), promote the idea that the flu has become a deadly and incurable epidemic. While dangerous for people with serious health complications in the first place, the rest of us are not likely to be severely impacted from the flu. It’s not fun, for sure, but a week on the coach with a box of tissues, lots of fluids, and some good movies usually does the trick.
On the other hand, there are those who have gotten the flu shot, and swear up and down that the worst case they have ever encountered happened directly after getting the flu shot! Yikes, no one wants to actually bring on the flu in their household.
So which is it? Do we rush the first drive-thru vaccine station we find, or stay as far away from the end of the needle as possible? Do we get the Flu Shot or Not?
Here’s what I found:
While we only want what’s best for our families, we are often willing to jump on every health bandwagon, try every fad diet, and believe every piece of preventative literature put out there. Without doing our own research, sometimes we wind up using our own bodies (and those of our children) as experiments. In some cases, this isn’t even a personal choice anymore, as certain work environments require mandatory vaccination for continued employment. While we line up, drug companies are becoming increasingly wealthy, as their many products are marketed and consumed. But are they really for our best…or theirs?
Studies on Influenza Vaccine
The flu is caused by a number of viruses, and is impossible to know which strain will be prevalent in the upcoming season, due to its constant mutation. Peter Doshi, Ph.D. is a scientist at Johns Hopkins who has studied influenza vaccines and released his report in the British Medical Journal. Doshi’s research shows that “even when the vaccine is closely matched to the type of influenza that’s prevalent, which doesn’t happen every year, randomized, controlled trials of healthy adults found that vaccinating between 33 and 100 people resulted in one less case of influenza.”
What About Children?
Neurosurgeon Dr. Russell Blaylock found that the influenza vaccine not only has “zero effectiveness in children under five” but also “contains a dose of mercury that is toxic to the brain.” While it is not factual that the flu vaccine can give you the flu, it does increase your chances of getting it, primarily due to the immune depressant, caused by the mercury for several weeks after receiving the vaccine. As well, there are additional additives in the vaccine, causing certain children to have allergic reactions shortly after reception. Because of this, the CDC has recently approved a nasal vaccine, not made with thimerosal (mercury-based preservative).
“The most important thing for infants, children, and pregnant women is to MAKE SURE YOU ARE GETTING A MERCURY-FREE FLU VACCINE.” ~Dr. Bob Sears
“Mercury overstimulates the brain for several years, and that activation is the cause of Alzheimer’s and other degenerative diseases. One study found that those who get the flu vaccine for three to five years increase their risk of Alzheimer’s disease 10-fold.”
What About the Elderly?
There is especially great fear among the elderly, who are most strongly encouraged to receive a flu vaccine each year. This information has also been combated by scientists such as Doshi, who claim “the only randomized trial of influenza vaccine in older people found no decrease in deaths.” Doshi and Blaylock are critical of the CDC’s study rates, claiming they are based on the “healthy-user effect,” meaning that healthier people are receiving the vaccines in larger numbers in the first place. As well, back-to-back flu shots are proving lower effectiveness, even in healthy people.
“As we are currently struggling through one of the most vigorous influenza seasons in recent memory, the apparent failure of influenza vaccine under optimal conditions seen in this study is indeed troubling.” ~Drs. John Treanor and Peter Szilagyi
Drug companies have nothing to lose. They are just about the most protected people in medicine, as their companies cannot be held accountable for drug related complications. If it’s all about money, and they are not worried about losing it in lawsuits, due to premature released vaccines, or simply ineffective drugs, they WHY not? I suppose, ethics would be the only thing stopping them at that point, but we have all seen where ethics have unfortunately been placed in modern medicine. For this reason, many families have turned to natural forms of medicine, and have worked hard to educate themselves on healthcare facts and treatments.
Some of the additives in these vaccines are downright scary! And if this vaccine is going to do more damage than good for me and my family…no thanks! The general public has everything to lose by offering our bodies as test subjects. I know as well as anyone what one week on the couch does to our family and household. We all suffer.
Perhaps instead of sending kids, elderly, pregnant women, and the terminally ill running to get a flu shot, we should carefully deliberate if we are truly benefiting, especially in the way we are being convinced through creative marketing.
